Day 6 (April 18, 2022, Monday)

First thing this morning it was raining, then it quit raining, and then it started raining, and then we went the wrong direction right off the bat for 3 1/2 miles. So then we hiked 3 1/2 miles back for a total of 7 miles and started back where we began this morning, yeah oh!

And we crossed another big creek!

must cross creek   b-r-rr-rrr

“We saw a slug tail, there was a slug. And there was a butterfly and a caterpillar and hotels yesterday and we’re now in the Smokies, this is the last big peak in the Smokies. And it’s been awesome awesome awesome I am, and it got cold this evening and we tried to start a fire and the wood was all wet and we were not too successful with it. What else, we got the 7 miles and then we did 5 miles of our actual route that’s right so we had a 5 mile day today in Reality OK and a yummy dinner and mashed potatoes and gravy with 2.6 oz of meat.”

5 miles on trail + 7 miles (on wrong trail – what in the world?)
