Day 4 first half of the day on the trail
Walked 5.3 miles in great time (2 hrs) from Camp 48 to Smokemont.

Total 31 miles since Day 1!! Hitched a ride to Cherokee in the back of a truck from a nice couple; so only had to walk 1 mile instead of 6! Checked in early at Super 8 – it is really nice! Ate pancakes at Peter’s Pancake House – Ken had blueberry.

After naps and laundry at the hotel we walked into town for resupply.

It was next to a nice veteran’s center. We saw all 7 painted bears in the city – super cool. A beautiful river park on the way. Ken saw a huge ground hog – it had several rooms in its mansion on the hill.
Family dollar shopping took care of most our resupply needs and we finished up at Food Lion. We stopped at Arby’s for dinner and took two sandwiches for the next day’s hike.
As we were walking back to the hotel for the night (on our ‘rest’ day), we realized we had walked over 9 miles today. This morning felt like 2 days ago!
Wonderful shoulder rub! Fire alarm at the hotel rang at 3:33am so we got up and dressed; because yesterday afternoon we saw a motel on fire so thought it prudent to be dressed just in case.
