Day 18 (April 30, 2022, Saturday)

“We left dirty camp by the river and thought we would have a nice flat hike but that was a wrong assumption again, up and down up and down lots of wildflowers these really pretty reds little purple cockleshells, little star flowers on bushes, the little white flowers teeny tiny ones and so many flowers”.

The massive root ball became a natural wall hanging.

We’ve been hiking by the Hiawassee river near Reliance, TN; and there was a beautiful swimming hole and we just passed the cave.

A lot of the same flowers that we saw in North Carolina are also here in Tennessee. And many new flowers too! This is our first full day in Tennessee and it is muggy and not even still morning and it’s gonna be a hot day.

A fernhead being!

Met a nice local couple hiking on the road, they’ve seen 2 bears recently.

Ate at Firewater burgers (used to be Flip Flops) and it was delicious! We are at 178 miles with .4 miles to get to the Hiawassee outfitters to camp.  It is sure muggy here!

The Hiawasee River, which is very shallow and the river bottom is covered in small smooth rocks instead of mud, used to be home to the Native Americans for thousands of years. And then one day it turned into Reliance, TN.

Home Sweet Home…Lisa waded in the river in her skivvies.

12.16 miles
